How Cats Protection help care for abandoned cats across the country
By PUBLISHED: 19:08 22 March 2018 | UPDATED: 19:11 22 March 2018 Archant To live is to be loved - And for some cats, there’s not enough love to go around
Cats Protection
200,000 cats and kittens helped every year, but still many more need help. Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity. Through our network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 34 centres, we help care for abandoned cats and kittens across the UK. Our vision is a world where every cat is treated with kindness and an understanding of its needs. It’s an ambitious vision. However, we truly believe it can be achieved because of our passion, our professional approach and simply because cats are among the UK’s most popular companion pets.
Cats Protection Photographer: Andrew Pye
We have simple and clear objectives to help cats: • Homing – we help to find good homes for cats in need • Neutering – we promote the benefits of neutering to prevent unwanted litters from being born and becoming the abandoned cats of tomorrow • Information – we improve people’s understanding of cats and their care and help to educate people of all ages about cats and their welfare requirements We live in a world where there are many more cats than available homes and yet large numbers of unneutered cats are still allowed to have kittens. Sadly, abandoned and neglected cats remain commonplace.
Cats Protection
At any one time we can have many thousands of cats in our care across the country. And there are many more that need our help. They may be abandoned, unwanted, mistreated or seeking a new home because their owners can’t care for them any longer. Old, sick, frightened…each cat that arrives in our care is different and we are committed to giving each and every one, the love and care they need for as long as it takes to find them a loving home. Every cat that comes into us is health checked, treated for fleas and worms and vaccinated and neutered to get them ready for rehoming. We also microchip every cat, so that if they do become separated from their new owner the pair can be quickly reunited.

This dedication ensures the best possible start in their new life. However, such a high level of care comes at a high cost. From the moment a cat comes into our care, to the happy day they leave with their new family, we will do all we can to ensure the best start in their new home. We never put a healthy cat to sleep It is our ambition to help even more cats than we do already and cats and their welfare are at the heart of everything we do.
Cats Protection
We can only be there for all the cats and kittens that need us with the support of kind friends, friends who are caring and generous cat lovers kind enough to consider making a significant gift towards our work. Not only can you help us to continue to offer shelter, food and care to thousands of unwanted cats and kittens – you can also help to make the world a better place for every cat by helping to educate people to become better owners and by supporting neutering programmes that will stop unplanned litters becoming the unwanted cats of tomorrow. Can you help give cats a better today and a brighter tomorrow? Please consider becoming a Friend of our new Black Cat Society. Why equestrianism will always remain an important part of The Royal Cheshire County Show
By PUBLISHED: 00:00 21 March 2018 Archant Equestrianism is an important part of The Royal Cheshire County Show as Christine Newton Chairman of the Light Horse category explains.

While the Royal Cheshire County Show is one of the most prestigious events on the agricultural calendar, it is very much an important date on the equestrian calendar too. The horse section, saw a staggering 3,300 entries over the two days of the show last year and on June 19th and 20th 2018 thousands once again will be beating a path to the Tabley showground to exhibit their equestrian skills. ‘That is the usual number of entries,’ Christine Newton, Chairman of the Light Horse section of the show says, as she gears up for the busiest two days of her year. ‘Of course some people may enter their horse into two or more categories but even so, it does mean we literally have thousands of horses here every year. It is in fact the biggest part of the Royal Cheshire County Show.’
Atkinson Action Horses perform in the main arena
Christine, who was born in Over Alderley, grew up in Prestbury and now living in Winsford, initially volunteered as a steward at the show in 1989 and worked her way up, achieving the position of Light Horse Chairman in 2006. ‘My daughters Sarah and Debbie were in the show world as children and I wanted to give something back,’ she explains. ‘I had been a bookkeeper/company secretary and rode as a child, my girls came up through the showing world and over the years I have seen it really grow, it has so many more classes now.’ One of the reasons the horse section is so popular is that the competitions qualify riders and their steeds for the pinnacle of equestrianism, the Horse of the Year Show.

At Cheshire the categories are split into two – Light Horse category, which includes show jumping and in-hand and the Shires. Both have different sets of rules and different people in the driving seat. ‘I am in charge of the Light Horse section and I run most of the ridden classes,’ explains Christine. ‘it’s a year-long ongoing thing. We work on it all the time. The judges can only do one Horse of the Year qualifying show a year so to get our judges we have to start appointing them before this year’s show, so I’ll be contacting people now for next year, then I will be putting together my team of stewards. I have about 30-odd stewards in my section over the two days of the show.’ As well as organising the competitions Christine has to deal with the more practical matters in the run up to the event, ensuring that the rings are right and the ground is in good condition.
Christine Newton (right) Chair of Cheshire Show Light Horse Section, with Danielle Heath at Townsend Farm, Sandbach
The Light Horse division ranges from the lead rein category with children as young as four-years-old competing, to adults. ‘The children are the stars of the show,’ says Christine. ‘But you know you’ve been here a long time when you see the children you first saw in these little classes who are now bringing their own children into the ring.’ As well as The Royal Cheshire Show Christine’s role takes her to other competitions around the country, supporting those in other shows and events. ‘Now I do the area shows and the national championships, about six or seven events a year at least,’ she reveals.
Christine Newton, Chair of Cheshire Show Light Horse Section, with Danielle Heath's horse, Bershan Dragonfly, at Townsend Farm, Sandbach.
‘But that’s nothing compared to years ago when I’d be doing one or two every weekend.’ Over the years there have been surprisingly few mishaps although she does admit they have had to get the air ambulance to fly in a couple of times when there has been an accident but there have been more highs than lows. For example she got to meet both Princess Anne and the Countess of Wessex were both former Presidents of the show. ‘Obviously they are both interested in horses even though they are presidents of the entire show, not just the equestrian section,’ says Christine. ‘I took them in the ring to present a rosette and I did have a photograph taken with the countess of Wessex when she came in 2015.’ Christine loves the social side of her role, meeting other stewards both at the Royal Cheshire Show and other events she attends over the year. ‘We have a great team here and everyone works together . I feel very proud to be part of the show.’ The Royal Cheshire County Show June 19-20 Contact the show at Clay House Farm, Flittogate Lane, Tabley, Knutsford, WA16 0HJ, 01565 650200 www.royalcheshireshow.org. Joe Forrest with his David Bowie
‘I like learning different skills as it challenges and enforces my knowledge. If you’re not always learning then there’s no point in doing it,’ said Wallasey fine artist Joe Forrest. The 32-year-old has been drawing and painting from a very young age and set up his own business two years ago. Since then he has undertaken a number of major projects, including artwork at TV chef Simon Rimmer’s The Viking Pub and Bakehouse in West Kirby, and even had one celebrity portrait go semi-viral. ‘I did a one metre portrait of Bowie, which was commissioned shortly after he passed away,’ said Joe, who works from his studio in the Gostins Building on Hanover Street in Liverpool city centre. ‘Initially I was going to do a straightforward portrait but I decided to turn it into a bit of a showcase piece. It took around 100 hours to complete. I posted a photograph of it online and it reached 42,000 people on Facebook, which took me by surprise a bit.’ Joe’s love of art really began to blossom while he was studying at independent day school, Birkenhead School in Oxton. The natural ability he had developed as a child was nurtured by teachers and he became one of the best artists in the class.

When I left school, I went to study at the Merseyside Forum for Painting, Scultpture and Allied Crafts (The Forum), which was originally at the Bluecoat Chambers before they developed it into the space it is today,’ said Joe, who along with his elder brother Daniel, was mentored by acclaimed artist Terance McGunigle, who was classically trained at the Academia di Belle Arti in Florence. ‘The Forum was based in the former studio of Liverpool sculptor, Tyson Smith. It was amazing to continue a legacy that has over 100 years of history. We didn’t just train in painting, but in a range of traditional and contemporary art techniques including stone carving, restoration, clay modelling and resin sculptures.’ After three years with Terance, Joe and Daniel set up their own business and undertook commissions for Vodka Revolution, Jamie Carragher’s 23 Foundation and even produced 5ft tall heads of Prince William and Kate Middleton to celebrate their wedding. However Daniel then moved to London so Joe decided to spend a few years working on graphic design and websites. ‘I didn’t pick up a pencil in three years. It was only when the former business owner of Vodka Revolution called me to say he was setting up a business with Simon Rimmer and asked if I would do a series of paintings. All of a sudden I was doing three large canvases and eight murals of local wildlife! It was off the back of that I got back into art.’
Model Number 3
For two years now Joe has been running his own business where he not only creates portraits, bespoke artwork, landscapes and murals, but is using the talents he honed with Terance to undertake some interesting projects. ‘My first job of the year was restoring gold leaf lettering on an old plaque at a school, and I am in the middle of working with a friend on a project creating custom made kettle bells. I’ve done a rough plaster cast of a bull dog for him, so now he’s working on a mould to cast it out. I enjoy the variety, I don’t want to just paint.’ March 16, 2018 at 02:31PM via All articles http://www.cheshirelife.co.uk/artist-profile-joe-forrest-1-5438342 Aerials Widnes

Introduction to owning a motorhome
By PUBLISHED: 10:22 19 March 2018 | UPDATED: 12:43 19 March 2018 Dandelion Photography UK London Have you ever dreamt of driving off into the sunset in your own motorhome – free to explore as you please, stopping as you wish and generally taking life easy? If so, this guide is for you.
TMC Motorhomes - Dandelion Photography
If you’ve ever looked into the window of a motorhome parked on the crest of a windswept bluff of rugged coastline and wished you were sitting inside enjoying a warming cup of tea, or looked longingly on at a family sat under the shade of their motorhome awning to escape from the blazing lunchtime sunshine just a stone’s throw from an idyllic sandy beach, you’ve probably already been sold on the motorhome lifestyle. But are you ready for the reality? Owning your own motorhome will change the way you holiday. For one thing, you’re going to get away a lot more frequently. The temptation to take the motorhome away for the weekend on a warm bank holiday weekend can’t be denied. For another, your destinations will be planned around those locations to where you can comfortably drive. This means you’ll be holidaying, for the most part, in Western Europe; unless your motorhome purchase is predicated on taking a few months out, enjoying a career break or following a retirement dream – in which case the world’s your oyster!
TMC Motorhomes - Dandelion Photography
Besides the immediate considerations about whether a motorhome will suit the way you plan to holiday in the coming years, there are a number of practical considerations you’ll need to think about before you buy. Financial considerations A motorhome is a big investment. Happily, it is an investment that has a much slower rate of depreciation than you’d experience with other vehicles. Nevertheless, it is important to consider the best way to pay for it. Hire purchase and Personal Contract Purchase are popular ways to spread the initial cost. You’ll also need to plan for the ongoing costs of insurance and breakdown cover – as well as personal travel insurance to cover you while travelling abroad. Bear in mind that this is likely to become more expensive after May 2019 when we leave the European Union as our European health treatments will no longer be covered by the EU’s EHIC scheme and so, even within Europe, travel insurance will need to include health insurance.
TMC Motorhomes - Dandelion Photography
Choosing the right van for you Vans vary a lot in terms of their interior layout and fittings and what you choose can have a big impact on the price you pay. Have a serious think about how you’ll be using your van and what is important to you. For example, how many berths do you need? Is bike storage important? Visiting dealerships and talking with other motorhome owners will help you think about the ways you will be using your motorhome and what implications that has in terms of the best model for you. If, having taken a few good tours of different models, you still have unanswered questions or are worried that you haven’t thought of everything, hire a motorhome for a weekend. This is a great way to see for yourself how you would live in your motorhome.
TMC Motorhomes - Dandelion Photography
Companies like Freedhome Luxury Motorhome Hire in Bury offer a variety of models to hire; an easy way to test what works for you. Practical home comforts Motorhoming is a great way to travel. It exposes you to the culture of a country in a way you would not experience if staying in a hotel – without having to compromise on any of your home comforts. Yet there are some trade-offs to consider. While motorhoming might offer more luxurious accommodation that camping, it will never be as luxurious as a hotel. Yes, you gain convenience and the ability to take all the comforts of home with you – as well as bring many more comforts and souvenirs back with you. But motorhome life isn’t without its practical considerations; you do have to fill up with water on a regular basis and find places to safely empty your toilet cassette and grey water.
TMC Motorhomes - Dandelion Photography
However, some of these practical considerations can be the changes that make motorhoming so special. Yes, you might be cooking more – but those early morning treks around local markets can provide some of the most memorable – and mouthwatering – moments of your holiday. Have fun! Owning a motorhome introduces you to a different way to travel, get away together and immerse yourselves in different places and cultures. Whether you dream of having a motorhome for the freedom to set off into the British countryside every weekend or are harbouring ambitions for a grand-tour style adventure, owning a motorhome opens up new holiday possibilities. TMC Motorhomes is the North’s largest Roller Team & Sun Living by Adria dealership. With a huge range of both Roller Team & Sun Living by Adria motorhomes available to view on their forecourt, TMC Motorhomes will be exhibiting at the Royal Cheshire Show this June and offer a try before you buy on most layouts. Matthew O'BrienUnique design by Matthew O'Brien1/11 The fashionistas of Chester were out in force for a fabulous catwalk show by designer Matthew O’Brien. Matthew, a master of occasion dressing, pulled out all the stops for his 500 plus guestlist, giving Chester Cathedral a divine make-over that included masses of flowers and foliage and huge chandeliers festooned above the runway. It was the second show at the cathedral for the designer who has an atelier in Rufus Court, Chester and by his own admission even bigger and more ambitious than the first. There were 45 looks spanning two shows, the first half showcasing ready-to-wear and some bespoke creations and the second half featuring ballgowns, wedding dresses and an even an illuminated gown. Last year the runway was in the south transept but this year the show was also extended to the nave. There was music from Gospel choir Sing Out and a VIP champagne reception, followed by a Laurent Perrier sponsored aftershow party at the 1539 restaurant at Chester Racecourse. Matthew, winner of Britain’s Top Designer, Young Designer of the Year and Top Real Role Model of the Year finalist pulled everything together with the help of Springbank Flowers, creators of those sumptuous floral displays, Events Equipment Ltd who provided the infrastructure, Rebecca Jayne Make-up Studio and Andi Hibbeler-Pearce from Boutique Atelier who did the hair. Shoes were provided by Hoity Toity of Tarporley. The show also helped Matthew raise around £3,700 for Lady Taverners. Said Matthew: ‘I am so, so pleased that it turned out to be such a success. We had around 500 people there which was incredible. It was a mammoth task but I am so glad we were able to pull it off. ‘It is now definitley going to be an annual event and next year I am going to take it to a whole new level, but if people can’t wait until then they should look out for the events we will be doing across Cheshire and Manchester throughout the year.’ March 16, 2018 at 02:27PM via All articles http://www.cheshirelife.co.uk/matthew-o-brien-2018-fashion-show-chester-cathedral-1-5438323 Aerials Widnes
